We have lived side by side with Barn Owls for centuries, but in modern times wild Barn Owls have become an increasingly rare sight.
Barn Owls hunt over open fields and rough grassland, where their prey is most abundant. Rough grassland provides the small mammals, such as Field Voles, which Barn Owls prefer, with plenty of cover. During the summer, arable crops and hay meadows can also be good hunting grounds and in bad weather Barn Owls will often hunt in and around farm buildings.
